We have an exciting new role for a temporary Level 2/3 Nursery Practitioner to work as a float member of staff across the different rooms within the nursery.

  • You will need sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Be a good team player
  • Have the ability to communicate, record written observations and assessments for this role.

In addition, you will be responsible for contributing to the planning and managing children's profiles, taking on any other duties in the classroom that are requested by the Room Leader. The hours will be 41 hours and 40 minutes per week with 25 days holiday a year (Pro Rata). We offer a very competitive salary, which will depend on your experience, together with a company uniform.

We have a vacancy for a nursery support practitioner to work with a child in our Preschool Room with an immediate start for the suitable candidate.


The role will be 15 hours per week and pay is to be decided dependent on qualifications and experience.


The role is working on a Monday 8-6 and Wednesday 8-2. (This is not a term time only position).


You will need to be patient with a passion for working with children ensuring they have the same opportunities as their peers.

Job Description

Pre-school Practitioner

The assistant should support the leader in providing a stimulating and varied programme of play and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children.

  • Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children
  • Help provide and take part in all group activities ensuring team work and support are foremost
  • Help prepare and fully set out and tidy the playroom
  • Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learned as part of the job.
  • Keep children’s records accurately and up to date, at home out of normal hours if necessary
  • Implement key worker system as directed by Play leader
  • Understand & implement pre-school policies
  • Encourage parental involvement
  • Take part in special events, outings & visits
  • Attend staff meetings and help prepare forward plans for the group
  • Advise the leader of any matter requiring attention such as concerns about a child or equipment needing repair or replacement in line with Health & Safety Requirements
  • Work extra hours often at short notice to cover for other staff absence
  • Work Term Time only (39 weeks per annum) 4 weeks holiday to be taken in school holiday

Person Specification

Pre-school Practitioner

To carry out their responsibilities effectively, the assistants will require the following skills and attributes:

  • Fully aware of the Statutory Framework for the EYFS and its requirements
  • Continue to effectively implement the strong ethos of team work within the pre-school
  • Seek advice and support when necessary
  • Carry out the groups commitment to raising standards
  • Be committed to creating a safe and secure environment for children to flourish & grow through various safeguarding strategies
  • Be creative and have life skills
  • Able to communicate confidently with parents
  • Be physically fit able to lift/carry/play
  • Have recent experience of children in the early years or in a nursery type setting
  • Have some experience of Special Needs Education in early years
  • Have some experience of working with two year olds (desirable)
  • Relevant minimum Level 3 qualifications in Early Years & Child Care essential
  • Have some I.C.T. skills
  • Willingness to undertake additional training
  • Be reliable, enthusiastic and flexible, particularly with working hours
  • Respect confidentially
  • Commit to implementing the groups Equality policy to all families in the community
