First Steps Day Nursery is looking for a full and relevant, level 3 qualified practitioner with post qualifying experience. Full time is preferred, however the position could be job shared, and part time hours would be considered.

The nursery operates 7.30am - 6pm, Monday to Friday and for 51 weeks of the year.

The position requires the successful candidate to work with children aged 0 - 30 months. We are very child focused, the welfare, happiness and their overall nursery experience is of our highest priority, we do not allow unnecessary paperwork to hinder our engagement with the children. We are a small and incredibly friendly nursery located in the lovely village of Great Wilbraham, Cambridge. The nursery is sought after, and full day care with a high reputation, we are currently full and operating a waiting list. The current staff team are incredibly dedicated, consistent and very valued, our staff turnover is very low and is owner managed. Are you a Keystage 2 teacher looking to take the next step in your career by leading a team? Following the promotion of our Deputy Headteacher and one of our team leaders, we would like to appoint 2 team leaders to each be responsible for a core subject and a team of 4 classes.


This role will suit an experienced teacher who is first and foremost an excellent teacher. Whilst you may not have had previous experience in leading a team, you will be working alongside an established leadership team and be given the time, support and CPD to enable you to be successful in the role of team leader. A subject responsibility will be discussed at interview, but an interest in Science or Computing would be desirable.

We wish to appoint two experienced, passionate and creative members of playgroup staff to deliver high quality pre-school education and early years support to children attending a small village playgroup in Teversham, and their families.

There is also the opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced applicants to be considered for the role of Deputy Manager.

The successful applicant will provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending the playgroup and maintain a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment. They will contribute to the curriculum planning within the group. Playgroup staff members will have key children.

Your main duties will include:

  • Working as part of a childcare team to achieve improved Ofsted inspection judgments
  • Ensuring that the early years service delivered is of the highest quality
  • Liaising with families about their children’s learning and needs
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping and complying with reporting requirements
  • Promoting services within the local community and meeting local needs
  • The Deputy Manager will support the Manager in their duties as required

You will have:

  • Experience of working in or supporting early years and childcare settings
  • A relevant qualification (Level 2 or above – Assistant, Level 3 or above – Deputy Manager)
  • Good communication skills
  • Passion for supporting children to thrive and meet their potential
  • Sound knowledge of child development and early years learning
