Contract: Permanent, 30 hours per week (8.30 am to 3.00 pm Monday to Friday) working Term Time plus training days plus 2 additional weeks per year (a total of 41 working weeks per academic year)

Salary:  Scale 3, Points 14 – 17 (£17,681 to £18, 672 pro – rata), (actual salary £12, 833.43 to 13,552.73)

Location: The post is based at Middlefield Primary Academy, St Neots (but will be required to travel to other schools within the Diamond Learning Partnership Trust)             

The Diamond Learning Partnership Trust is looking for an experienced Purchase Ledger Clerk to work within our central finance team, placing orders for Trust schools and processing high volume supplier invoices into Sage manually using purchase orders and nominal ledger postings. In addition the post holder will provide timely and effective financial administrative support to the Finance Manager and academy staff in accordance with Trust procedures and assist our academies by maintaining good relationship with staff, parents, governors, contractors’ representatives, suppliers and external agencies.

The successful candidate will need to be adaptable, enthusiastic, highly motivated and have the ability to work as part of a team.

The applicant should be qualified to NVQ level 2 or 3 or equivalent, have relevant experience in working with 2 - 5 year olds and have good knowledge of Early Years Education. The ability to work well as a team and have excellent communication skills with adults and children are also essential.

Session times are 9.00am -3.00pm. You would be required to work between 8.30am - 3.30pm on a part time basis (the work rota will be allocated depending on work requirements of the team).

Key objectives:

To work as a proactive member of the Preschool Team, showing initiative and creativity and develop an environment which encourages the children’s all-round development and where high standards of care are provided.


  • Be a reliable team member, working co-operatively and with flexibility.
  • Have understanding of the EYFS and put into practice, observations, next steps and planning. Encourage, motivate and stimulate each child in creating a nurturing environment.
  • You will be assigned as a key person and delegated a number of children, to whom you will have responsibility of maintaining their portfolios.
  • You will assist with planning activities for the children adult led and child led based on the EYFS.
  • You will supervise children at play (indoor and outdoor) and at snack and meal times.
  • You will aid in setting up and down of equipment and be responsible for ensuring the preschool is left in a clean and tidy manner and set up for the following session/day.
  • Develop excellent communication skills with the parents/carers, encouraging them to participate in their child’s development and progress.
  • Attend parent/ team meetings; be involved in the promotion of the preschool as required.
  • Assist with creating stimulating and attractive classroom environments.
  • Take instruction and guidance from the preschool manager and deputy.
  • Assist with the care, maintenance and security of the preschool equipment and toys.
  • Assist in the preparation for OFSTED inspections
  • Guide and encourage good practice to preschool assistants, students, unqualified staff and volunteers.
  • To advise manager/deputy of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, carer’s, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.


  • Attend any training sessions as required.
  • Participate in self development activities, including appraisals, supervisions etc.
  • Develop positive relationships with other staff working in the preschool.

Health and Safety:

  • Undertake a shared responsibility for health and safety and cleanliness throughout the preschool.
  • Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times.
  • Understand all emergency and security procedures eg; Fire procedure, routines for dropping off and collecting children.


  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures including attendance at meetings, preparation of reports and any other duties as required.
  • Ensure that the companies’ Equal opportunities policy is adhered to at all times.

Person specification:




NVQ Level 2




NNEB, NVQ 3, or other appropriate qualification




Previous experience of working with children 2 – 5 yrs old




Previous experience within a playgroup or similar




Knowledge of Health and Safety issues




Good communication skills





Ability to work reliably as a team member, alongside parents and with colleagues.




First aid Certificate.





Knowledge of safeguarding and the procedure to follow if an incident arises
