The Cam Academy Trust

The Cam Academy Trust was established at the beginning of 2011. In the first instance, it oversaw Comberton Village College’s conversion to Academy status in February 2011.

However, it’s remit soon developed as it sponsored The Voyager Academy in Peterborough in September 2011 and oversaw a proposal to establish a new Free School, Cambourne Village College which opened in September 2013. The academy of Melbourn Village College also joined  the Trust in September 2013. Gamlingay First School became the first Primary-phase school to join the Trust in April 2016, and in September 2018 moved to full primary status changing their name to Gamlingay Village Primary School.  St Peter’s School, an 11-18 school in Huntingdon,  joined the Trust in September 2016 followed by a further two primary schools, Hartford Junior and Hartford Infant Schools who became academies of the Trust in January 2017.  Also in January, The Trust brokered a new partnership for The Voyager Academy with Peterborough-based Thomas Dean Academy Education Trust.  Jeavons Wood Primary School in Cambourne followed in  July 2017. The latest schools to join the Trust in September 2018 were Thongsley Fields Primary and Nursery School in Huntingdon and Everton Heath Primary School in Bedfordshire.

The role of the Trust now is to ensure excellence for all in the Academies  within the Trust and to ensure that all local communities are very well served by The Cam Academy Trust Academies. The Chair and the Board of Trustees take a strategic oversight of this and work with the Local Governing Bodies of the Academies to provide strong governance. Each Academy has a Principal or Head of School who report to the Chief Executive.
