Nursery Assistant – Maternity Cover (32.5 hours per week) (Ref NA-ZM-TE)

Starting salary is £13,924 per annum (FTE £17,459 based on 40.75 hours)

The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

Babraham Nursery was opened in September 1990 and operates from a large house situated in a quiet corner of a residential area in the grounds of the Institute. It has a large enclosed garden with climbing frame, pathways and grassed areas. It accommodates up to ninety children on the Early Years register aged from 6 weeks to 5 years throughout the year and operates a separate after-school club and holiday club for school-aged children during the holidays at the local school.

There is a large team of Nursery Nurses and Nursery Assistants who care for the children as well as staff who provide the meals and administrative support. A Senior Nursery Nurse leads each of the four base rooms supported by the Deputy Managers and Head of Nursery. We also have two cleaners who carry out regular daily cleaning.

A post has arisen for a temporary Nursery Assistant to cover maternity leave four days per week. Applicants should ideally have experience of working with young children under the age of five years in an early year’s environment. The successful candidate must be willing to work with all age groups across nursery.

The hours for this post are 32.5 hours per week; 8.30am - 5.45pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 8.30am - 5.15pm on Friday with an unpaid hour for lunch each full day worked.

This post is to cover Maternity Leave and may be available for up to one year.

The Nursery is open all year round except for Bank Holidays and a one-week closure during the Christmas period, therefore this post is to work throughout the whole year, including the school holidays.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB Disclosure) is required.

Further information about the Institute can be found on our website. Application forms and further details are available electronically (www.babraham.ac.uk), or e-mail: HR@babraham.ac.uk.
