Our friendly team of 8 staff are looking for an Early Years Practitioner for maternity cover to join us from Monday 3rd September 2018. The position requires an enthusiastic, caring and friendly person to work in our OUTSTANDING setting and be involved with promoting the Early Years Foundation Stage.

At ACE Day Nursery we value the importance of our community and outdoor environment. We involve the children in Forest School sessions and outings to places such as; the central library, supermarkets, churches, feeding the ducks, garden centres and residential homes. We look after 17 children and have a free flow play environment with access to the garden.

The nursery is open from 8.30am - 5.30pm and closes over the Christmas and Easter period along with a 2-week closure at the end of August. The candidate will be qualified to level 3 and will take on a key person role providing high quality care for our children aged between 1 and 3 years.

Job Title: Early Years Practitioner

Reports to: Nursery Manager Summary

To provide high quality care for children aged 1 3 years, under the direction of the Nursery Manager. To actively support the work of the company at both the Day Nursery and at ACE Nursery School.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To ensure high standards of care, learning and development is achieved for all children, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.

2. To act as a Key Person and carry out all duties as required by this position.

3. Ensure high standards and good practice at all times, in line with the policies and procedures.

4. Carry out supervisory and any other duties as requested by the Manager, Deputy, Forest School Leader or the Head Teacher at the Nursery School.

5. Attend and contribute to staff meetings and relevant training outside of nursery hours when requested.

6. To maintain and promote good relationships with all families.

7. Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

8. Respect and value each member of staff and the working environment.

9. To be a positive role model for the nursery at all times.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Knowledge and Experience

Skills and Abilities


One of the following:


NVQ Level 3

or equivalent

Experience of working with children 1-3yrs

Experience of working within a key person system

Can demonstrate an ability to contribute towards a safe environment

Effective listening and communication skills

Good team member

Good time keeping skills

Ability to relate sensitively to wide range of children and families








Anti discriminatory practice


Basic Food Hygiene

First Aid

Basic Child Protection

Experience in a variety of day care settings

Knowledge of The Early Years Foundation Stage
